Check-in, Embarking and Disembarking
Check-in, embarking, and disembarking passengers and cars on and off the ferries
Check-in
All passengers must complete check-in.
Online it is even simpler and faster!
Just a few steps are enough to complete the procedure before arriving at the port.
To board, you will need your boarding pass: it is essential and you must keep it until disembarkation.
Online check-in
Have you booked your trip?
Complete online check-in quickly and easily.
Access your reserved area and complete online check-in in just a few steps.
Alternatively, enter here your booking number and the e-mail address used to purchase the ticket.
Once you have logged in, go to the dedicated section and follow the instructions to complete online check-in.
What do you need at this stage?
- Make sure you have your documents and those of the people travelling with you: you will need them to proceed with check-in.
- If you are travelling with a vehicle, keep the vehicle registration document at hand: during check-in you will be asked for some information about the vehicle, such as number plate, make and model.
- To ensure faster boarding operations and avoid any inconvenience, before confirming online check-in, carefully check all the data entered: once the procedure has been completed, it will no longer be possible to modify them independently. If necessary, you may still request support from GNV assistance or from your trusted agency.
- If your trip includes the online sending of boarding passes, you will receive them by e-mail a few hours before departure. Keep them carefully: in case of loss or cancellation, you will need to contact GNV or your trusted agency to request a copy, or go to the port with your ticket to obtain a new issue.
- On some routes, online check-in allows you to enter and validate your personal details and your vehicle information in advance, speeding up the procedures at the port. In these cases, however, the boarding pass is not issued online but is provided directly at the ticket office: additional document and customs checks are required and must be carried out in person before boarding.
At this point you are ready to leave! Go to the boarding section.
Check-in at the port
You can also complete check-in at the port.
If you have not completed online check-in, you may complete it directly at the port before departure.
Please remember that online check-in is available to complete the procedure before arriving at the port and avoid possible queues and waiting times.
Useful information for check-in at the port:
If you are travelling on foot
Go to the ticket office with:
- your ticket, either printed or digital on your smartphone;
- a valid identity document for all passengers, including minors.
Once check-in has been completed, you will be given your boarding passes. Keep them carefully: they will be requested during checks and boarding procedures.
If you are travelling with a vehicle
Reach the area dedicated to security checks and keep at hand:
- your ticket, either printed or digital on your smartphone;
- the identity documents of all passengers, including minors.
Then present the documentation at the port access gate to complete check-in and receive your boarding passes.
Passengers travelling with a car (online and port check-in)
- Check that the number plate and dimensions of the vehicle are correct: at check-in, GNV staff may carry out checks on the dimensions of the vehicles booked, such as cars, motorcycles, etc. In the event of any discrepancy, passengers will be asked to pay the relevant fare differences and ticket amendment fees.
- Check that your vehicle has all documents in order: GNV reserves the right not to board vehicles that do not comply with what was declared at the booking stage and if suitable ship garage spaces are not available.
- LPG-powered vehicles must be reported to the staff at the time of boarding. They will be parked in a dedicated area in the ferry garage.
Ready for boarding
Travelling on foot?
- On each boarding pass you will find the details of your accommodation, such as the cabin number or seat number.
- Reach the area dedicated to security checks and keep your documents and boarding pass at hand.
- Follow the signs to the ship access ramps: our staff will ask you for your documents and boarding pass and will show you how to reach the onboard reception or your accommodation.
Travelling with a vehicle?
- Reach the area dedicated to security checks and keep at hand the documents for each passenger and the ticket or digital boarding passes, one for each passenger.
- On each boarding pass you will find the details of your accommodation, such as the cabin number or seat number.
- The staff in charge will place a card with your destination on the windscreen: do not throw it away, as we need it to board your vehicle more quickly.
- Follow the directions: our staff will show you which area of the square to wait in before boarding and parking in the onboard garage.
- Remember that each vehicle will be boarded by the driver only in compliance with S.O.L.A.S. safety regulations (Safety Of Life At Sea): the other passengers must get out and reach the reception through the pedestrian route indicated by our staff.
- In the garage, the driver will be given a slip indicating the garage deck where the car is parked.
- For safety reasons, during navigation it will no longer be possible to access the garage, so it is essential to take with you everything you need for the trip.
Checks on documents, luggage and vehicles are for your safety:
- In compliance with the international ISPS code relating to anti-terrorism regulations, passengers must show their travel ticket, boarding pass and identity document if requested by a ship officer or by port staff on security duty.
- Passengers are also required to allow any inspections of their luggage requested by a ship officer or by port staff on security duty.
Check-out and disembarkation
You have arrived! Disembarking is very simple: carefully follow the onboard announcements and, if you are travelling by car, pay particular attention to those relating to the garage deck indicated on the slip you were given at boarding.
Accommodation, cabins and seats must be vacated before the ship’s arrival time, to allow disembarkation operations to take place safely.
Listen to the onboard announcements to find out what time to leave your accommodation and reach the meeting points in the common areas, from which disembarkation will begin.
Remember that on some routes Late Check-Out and Priority Disembarkation options are available! Find out how to choose them!
Please refer to the General Terms and Conditions, in particular Article 3, Accommodation, Article 10, Vehicle Boarding/Disembarkation, Article 11, Rules to be observed by the passenger, and Article 17, Luggage.
