Check-in, Embarking and Disembarking

Check-in, embarking, and disembarking passengers and cars on and off the ferries

Check-in

All passengers must check in.
How? It’s easy!
Present your ticket, ID document, and documents for those travelling with you, pick up your boarding pass with the accommodation number (cabin or seat).

The boarding pass is indispensable for coming on-board and must be kept until you disembark.

Discover all the information you need if you are a foot passenger or passenger with a car:

Foot passengers:

Travelling without a car?

  • Go to the ticket office and check in: present your ticket (remember to print it!) and ID documents for each passenger, including minors.
  • You will be given a boarding pass for each passenger.
  • Each boarding pass will have information regarding your accommodation (cabin or seat number).
  • Go to the security checkpoint with your documents and boarding pass at hand
  • Follow the indications for the ferry access ramps: our staff will request your documents and the boarding pass and will show you how to reach on-board reception or your accommodation.

CHECKING DOCUMENTS, LUGGAGE, AND VEHICLES IS FOR YOUR SAFETY:

  • In compliance with the ISPS international anti-terrorism code, passengers must show their travel ticket, boarding pass, and ID document whenever requested by a ship officer or port security staff.
  • Passengers must also consent to any luggage inspections upon request of a ship officer or port security staff.

Passengers with cars:

Here are a few tips if you are travelling by car. Remember that if you have any questions during embarkment you can always ask the staff. They are ready to help you!

  • Go to the security checkpoint with your documents and ticket at hand.
  • Go to the port access entry and check in: present your ticket (remember to print it!) and ID documents for each passenger, including minors.
  • You will be given a boarding pass for each passenger.
  • Each boarding pass will have information regarding your accommodation (cabin or seat number).
  • The staff will place a cardboard sign on your windscreen with your destination. Do not throw it out, we need it to be able to load your vehicle on board quickly.
  • Follow the instructions: our staff will indicate which area of the bay to wait in for embarkment before parking in the on-board garage.
  • Remember that each vehicle will be loaded by only the driver in compliance with S.O.L.A.S. (Safety of Life at Sea) standards: other passengers must exit the vehicle and go to reception following the foot path indicated by our staff.
  • The driver will be given a tag in the garage indicating the bridge-garage where the car is parked.
  • For safety reasons, it will no longer be possible to enter the garage during the trip, therefore, be sure to take everything you need with you.

When booking, always remember the following:

  • Make sure the plate and dimensions of the vehicle are correct. During check-in, GNV staff will check the dimensions of the booked vehicles (cars, motorcycles, etc.). In the event of a discrepancy, passengers will be required to pay the difference in price and fee for changing the ticket.
  • Make sure your vehicle has all documents in order: GNV reserves the right to not embark vehicles that do not comply with what was stated during booking and if there is no adequate garage space available on the ship.
  • LPG vehicles must be noted to GNV staff at the time of embarking. They will be parked in an ad hoc section of the ferry garage.

Check-out and Disembarking

You have arrived! Disembarking is easy: carefully follow the on-board announcements and, if travelling with your car, pay particular attention to those related to the bridge-garage indicated on the tag you were given upon embarking.

Accommodations (cabins and seats) must be left prior to the ship arrival time to allow disembarkment operations to be performed safely.

Listen to all on-board announcements to know when to leave your accommodation and reach the meeting points in the common areas, from which disembarkment will begin.

Remember that Late Check Out and Priority Disembarking are available on some lines! Discover how to choose them!

Check the General Conditions, especially Article 3 (Accommodation), Article 10 (Embarking and Disembarking vehicles), Article 11 (Rules for passenger), and Article 17 (Luggage).
