Training Courses on Maritime Intermodality
The Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport is the European reference centre for training in sustainable logistics and intermodal transport. Its main objective is to promote intermodality as the basis for the development of more sustainable logistics and more efficient supply chains in Europe. GNV is one of the founding partners of this centre, created through the collaboration of the Ports of Barcelona, Rome and Genoa together with the shipping companies Grimaldi Lines and GNV.
The Escola’s courses aim to train participants in intermodal logistics, Short Sea Shipping services and the Motorways of the Sea. The maritime intermodality courses are aimed at professionals from the sector as well as university students in logistics, transport and international trade. Some of these courses take place on board GNV ferries operating Short Sea Shipping services and usually last between three and four days. During the voyage, participants experience a real SSS route while attending lectures and workshops, gaining first-hand insight into port operations, logistics chains and port communities.
Over the years, the Escola has expanded its training portfolio with specialised technical courses covering topics such as temperature-controlled logistics, groupage and consolidation centres, port operations, and maritime-rail intermodality through the SURCO courses.
In addition, the Escola has developed the Port Virtual Lab (PVL), an innovative digital simulation platform that recreates the operations of a port community. Through PVL, students and professionals can simulate logistics chains, analyse transport routes and better understand decision-making processes within intermodal transport systems.
Throughout the year, the Escola also organises courses aimed exclusively at professionals, where alongside lectures and case studies, networking plays a key role in fostering future professional relationships among participants.
