Information on motor vehicle access to the island of Ibiza – Summer 2025
According to Law 5/2024 of the Government of the Balearic Islands, from 1 June to 30 September 2025, access and circulation of motor vehicles on the island of Ibiza will be subject to restrictions. The aim is to regulate the flow of vehicles in order to protect the environment and improve mobility on the island.
All travellers intending to board with a motor vehicle are required to comply with the provisions set out by Ibiza Circular, the official vehicle access control system. The rules vary depending on the type of ticket purchased and the vehicle category.
What are the main rules?
- Tickets purchased before 20 May 2025: No additional procedure is required.
- Return ticket with the same company (purchased after 21 May 2025): The shipping company will directly handle payment of the environmental tax and registration of the vehicle’s licence plate. No action is required from the passenger.
- Other cases (one-way ticket, different companies, special vehicles, etc.): The passenger must independently register their vehicle and pay any applicable access fee on the official website: www.ibizacircular.es
Failure to comply with the regulations may result in administrative penalties.
Exemptions from the fee and registration:
The following cases are exempt from booking the access quota and paying the fee:
- Vehicles with tax residence in Ibiza
- Residents of Mallorca, Menorca or Formentera travelling for work reasons, provided they hold a valid employment contract. Documentation must be uploaded to ibizacircular.es to obtain the exemption.
- Vehicles intended for goods transport
- Motorcycles
- Official or public service vehicles
- Agricultural or construction machinery
- Vehicles serving persons with reduced mobility
- Vehicles in transit to/from Formentera, upon submission of documentation on ibizacircular.es
Rules for caravans and motorhomes
Caravans and motorhomes are subject to specific rules:
- They must book the access quota and pay the required fee.
- It is mandatory to present a reservation at an authorised campsite.
- Parking on rural land or in non-equipped areas is prohibited.
When and how to book
If you purchase a return ticket with the same company after 21 May 2025, the booking and payment of the quota will be handled automatically by the company. If you have purchased a ticket under different conditions, you may register your vehicle directly on the official website a few days before departure.
