EES Regulations

Starting from 12 October 2025, the Entry Exit System (EES) will come into effect, the new border management system introduced by the European Union.

Regulation (EU) 2017/2226 established a centralized system for recording the entry and exit of third-country nationals crossing the external Schengen borders for a short stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

The new system aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of border controls.

It will apply both to third-country nationals who need an entry visa for short stays (VISA C) and to those exempt from it, and it will generally replace the stamping of passports while providing reliable data on the crossing of external borders.

The new system will not apply to third-country nationals holding a long-stay national visa (VISA D) or residence permits issued by Schengen States.

Who is affected

All citizens holding passports from non-EU / non-Schengen countries for GNV lines with Albania, Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. EU citizens, residence permit holders, and long-stay visa (VISA D) holders are not subject to this procedure.

What to do before traveling

  • Ensure you have a valid passport.
  • Note that on the first trip slightly longer times may be required for biometric data registration.
  • Arrive at the port a little early to facilitate border controls.
